Experience
Rachel is a New Zealand trained Psychologist who is endorsed as an Educational and Developmental Psychologist. She has 24 years' experience, working in social services, education, health, and Government consultancy. She is also employed within an indigenous health setting on the days she is not with Brighter Futures.
Rachel's approach is to work in partnership with parents/caregivers, teachers and other professionals to get the best possible outcomes for children, young people and adults. She considers how multiple environments interact and affect learning, behaviour and wellbeing. These environments include homes, learning spaces, community and wider society. Rachel has an interest in culturally responsive practice such as incorporating child voice and drawing on the strengths of the individual and their family.
Rachel has completed training as a yoga teacher and hopes to combine her love of psychology with her interest in restorative yoga. Rachel has an interest in trauma and prefers using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and somatic approaches in therapy. She is working toward full accreditation as an EMDR therapist with The EMDR Association of Australia (EMDRAA).
Rachel is available for appointments from our Mount Gravatt clinic on fortnightly Saturdays.
